Health systems around Europe have been on the brink of collapsing during the Covid19 epidemic. The fact that they have prevailed is, in large part, thanks to millions of women and their sense of responsibility.
It is this quiet and relentless perseverance that gives hope and that at least something positive emerges from these challenging times. The time has come to shed light on the role of women in the health and social sectors. Especially the paid and unpaid caregiving roles women perform in hospitals, senior care centers and in the home.
Many learnings will emerge from the handling of this epidemic to improve for the future. We must ensure one of the priority learnings is to include female voices when drafting effective and equitable policies.
